Brand new station will play more non-stop feel good music
On Monday February 29th at 6am, the UK will wake up to a brand new national radio station as Global, the media & entertainment group, launches Heart extra.
The launch of Heart extra means people right across the UK will be able to hear the nation’s most listened to radio brand on Digital One (D1). Heart extra will play even more hits and ‘more music variety’ from the 80s to the present day. The station will feature some of sister station Heart’s most loved presenters including Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton who will start the day with the Heart extra Breakfast Show.
The Heart extra line-up will also include some of Heart’s best known personalities including Jenni Falconer, Mark Wright and Jason Donovan.
This follows Global’s launch of Capital XTRA, Smooth Extra, LBC and Radio X on the national D1 DAB platform, joining Classic FM and showing the media & entertainment group’s firm commitment to building audiences on DAB and driving digital radio take up.
Ashley Tabor, Global’s founder & executive president, said: “Today’s announcement marks another important step for Global and for Digital radio. Heart extra will bring even more of the nation’s most popular commercial radio brand to audiences right across the UK on the D1 platform. Our strategy of brand extension and investment in building audiences on national DAB is very clear. We’re driving digital radio take up and more and more of our listeners are enjoying our radio stations on DAB than ever before.”
Gary Stein, Heart’s managing editor, said: “We know our listeners love the feel good music they hear on Heart and now they can listen to even more hits and ‘more music variety’ on Heart extra. Heart is the biggest commercial radio brand in the UK and we’re excited about taking this next step to make it even bigger and better.”
